I’ve just started reading The Slayer Chronicles: First Kill by Heather Brewer. She finished her first series The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod which consists of 5 books. This series was absolutely amazing. The Slayer Chronicles is her newest series. The main character is Joss. In the Vladimir Tod series Vlad meets Joss around the third book I believe and they become friends. Now in this series Joss is younger and is beginning his training to become a vampire slayer.
One of the conflicts that popped up right away was the death of his younger sister. She was murdered by a vampire. This traumatized Joss in 2 ways, one because he loved his sister more than anything in the world and second because he witnessed the murder himself. He didn’t know what had killed his sister at first because the vampire had erased his face from Joss’s memory.
But, at his sister’s funeral Joss’s uncle Abraham asked him what he remembered and he relaxed and the memory poured right back into his brain. Abraham told him that this man who killed his sister was a vampire. Abraham told him that in a few years Joss would begin to train to become a vampire slayer just like he was and just like his grandfather was. Joss was told that he had to swear his dedication to the Slayer Society and without thinking he said “I swear”.
